Influenza (the flu) is a serious disease which is very contagious and can cause major epidemics. Influenza typically lasts for 7-10 days, but the cough and weakness may continue for up to 6 weeks. The Influenza vaccine can prevent the Flu and its complications.

The vaccine usually protects most people against Influenza and people who do get the Flu, even though they have been vaccinated, often have milder symptoms than those who did not get the vaccine. The vaccine provides protection for up to 12 months. The viruses that cause Influenza change their composition from year to year. As a result, the vaccine composition is updated yearly to make sure that it offers the best protection and yearly vaccination is required.
